Sports Shoe Museum – creating digital presence

A website is far more than a simple online presence. In the digital space, too, the value creation and knowledge sharing that an organization or athlete represents in life is equally important.

Brief

The heritage of the Jumping Gala events, organized between 1987 and 2010, held originally at the main square of Salgótarján and then by the picturesque Somoskő Castle, is represented by a unique collection of sports shoes.  World class athletes, such as Sergey Bubka, Javier Sotomayor, Charles Austin, Maxim Tarasov, Yelena Isinbaeva, Blanka Vlasic, and Stefka Kostadinova have given their signed shoes to János Angyal, General Director of the competition to express their gratitude.

Aside the unique collection of sport shoes, the Museum includes further special sports relics, like the signature of Ferenc Puskás, probably the most well-known Hungarian football player and the NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The exhibition can be viewed at the Bazalt Guest House in Somoskő, spiced up by the János Angyal’s amazing personal stories.

As a child, it was a great experience and unforgettable memory for the head of our company to see the domestic and international stars of jumping sports up close, so the idea was born that the Sports Shoes Museum should continue to carry the legacy of the Jumping Galas in the form of a modern, engaging and information-rich website. A true love project!

Solution

The Sports Shoes Museum not only boasts a unique collection, but the personal stories associated with its sports relics are making the overall experience even more interesting.

Since we are talking about mostly signed sports shoes, often worn during competitions, we have paid special attention to showing the little details in order to satisfy the needs of not just the general public but the real sports enthusiasts and obsessed collectors as well. The photos for the website were taken by Tamás Horváth, who has a local connection (this was an important factor) and a sporting past.

The request of the owner was to create a database. So, we digitized the results of all 23 Jumping Galas, and in the case of the sports shoes, we also indicated the athlete’s individual bests, their honours at the biggest international competitions, and their results at the Jumping Galas.

Besides, János Angyal is a real storyteller. His fun, unique style makes the stories already amazing even more colorful, so we recorded the stories related to the sports relics in his own interpretation.

It cannot be stressed enough that everyone involved in this project did their part voluntarily by favor.

Result

The Sports Shoes Museum has a clean, modern, mobile-friendly website which is available at sportcipomuzeum.hu. This unique collection can reach a much wider audience in the digital space than those who can physically visit it (although it is more than recommended) and the website carries on the legacy of the Jumping Galas in an engaging way.
